What to Expect from Your First Visit to Pilates Fitness and Physical Therapy Center

Whether you’re coming to the center as a patient or attending a class, you might be wondering what to expect on your first visit.

This will depend, to some extent, on your purpose for coming.

But whatever the case, there’s no need to worry! You’ll be treated by every member of our experienced staff with care and respect.

If You Are Coming for Physical Therapy

Upon entering the center, you’ll be greeted by the receptionist who will ask you to fill out your normal doctor paper work. You’ll then be guided to our locker room where you’ll be given a secure locker in which to put any personal belongings.

Then you will meet Ron Jegadeesh – Licensed Physical Therapist and owner of Pilates Fitness and Physical Therapy Center. He will take some time to discuss with you your situation so he can get a better understanding of what you need.

Ron will begin with a thorough consultation and examination. Once he pinpoints the source of your problem with advanced diagnostics, he willcreate a personal treatment plan designed for your rapid return to function and well-being.

Now, if you’ve had physical therapy in the past, you might be anticipating a minimum of 12 visits. But at our center, we can effectively treat most conditions in just six to eight visits. That’s because of our unique approach that is a combination of hands-on physical therapy and Pilates.

As a physical therapist, Ron will work to empower you. His goal is to provide you with quality treatment, education and motivation. Rather than just being taken through routine movements, you’ll be TAUGHT movement and postural reeducation through a program of comprehensive core and joint stabilization.

Using Pilates and GYROTONIC® methodology on traditional equipment and mats, you’ll be introduced to new and safe ways to work with your injuries. And after your first session, you’ll feel empowered to take charge of your own recovery, fitness and well-being – and ready to set up your next appointment.

If You Are Coming to Take a Class

Similar to our clients who come in for physical therapy, if you’re coming as a student to take a class, you’ll also have to fill out a little paperwork.

But in this case, you’ll fill out an introductory form so that the instructor can get to know you and where you may experience injuries, healing or any other sensations in your body.

You’ll be guided to the locker room to put away your belongings, then set up on an open reformer machine. If it’s you first time on a reformer, don’t stress. (That’s the last thing we want here!)

Your instructor will show you the basic set-up of the reformer equipment so you’ll feel more familiar and comfortable with its workings before the class begins.

Once class starts, you’ll focus on exercises designed to restore the natural curves of your spine and rebalance the muscles around your joints. There will also be an emphasis on scapular stabilization. Preparatory exercises and modifications are also included to cater to your specific body type and ability.

If you’ve practiced yoga, you’ll find that Pilates is similar. Both are considered mind-body type methods of movement that emphasize deep breathing and smooth, long movements. But Pilates flows through a series of movements that are more dynamic, systematic and anatomically based incorporating resistance from the reformer.

At the end of class, your instructor will check in with you to see how you’re feeling. From there, you can go ahead and schedule your next class.
